Who am I?

Happy 2018! We hope your new year is off to a great start. Today, we are going back to basic- Who am I? Water is a basic necessity and one of the most important resources for the existence of all creatures on earth, whether it is an animal or a plant. This is not only because the human body is comprised of 70-80% of water, but trillions of cells in an organism cannot grow, reproduce and function without water. This implies that the quality of water can either heal or harm us.  Without good water, human beings cannot be healthy. One important premise in life is that "without water, there is no life and without good water, there is no health and well-being." This also means that one will suffer from various types of diseases without water.  Our body consists of cells, and 70% of cells are water. Similarly, blood is composed of 83% of water. The foundations of our body and life are cells and blood directly leads to illness, water plays the most im...

Winter Alert! Solutions to Overcome "Super Dry" Skin Aging

How Do We Prevent Skin from  Drying/Aging?   The core of " wintertime skincare "  is to prevent the main cause for aging-dryness. One of the ways to prevent skin from drying is to use exfoliating gel, peeling cream or scrub to remove the "dead skin cells" on the skin surface. It is important to exfoliate because when dead skin cells stay and are accumulated on the skin surface, it first hinders perspirations, which is the process of eliminating/excreting wastes from the body. Then this leads into skin troubles. This is why many women exfoliate once or twice a week to maintain clear, healthy skin. However,  one should also remember that excessive exfoliation can irritate the ski n. This is because in case of too much exfoliation, newly created cells can be as well removed with dead cells, thereby removing the protective shield or layer of skin. Thus, one must provide adequate amount of moisture and nutrients. Also, during winter, one experiences th...

Water Looks the Same, Works the Different!

For the past few weeks, we have been discussing the  importance of drinking water  and its relationship with minerals, our body, and growth. Many people know that drinking water is good for health. Now the question has shifted from "why drink water" to "what kind of water to drink." In fact, people-non-scientists and non-experts-may be less interested to know about the scientific properties and formula of water. Instead, all they want to know is answers to questions such as "What kind of water should we drink? Or " What are the qualities of good water ?" To answer those questions, first thing we have to do is to go over the types of drinking water on Earth-what are the options that we can choose from. The following is the list of water that people normally drink: Ground Water / Spring Water Ground water is from an underground source that is under a pressure equal to or greater than atmospheric pressure. Similarly, spring water come...

Newsletter Vol. 3 Coloring Your Plate Matters in Life

Biocera Weekly Newsletter Vol. 3, September  Coloring My Plate?  I remember back in 2009, when I was in Paris. It was sometime around November that I sat in a caf. Then through the window I saw many people passing by, most of them wearing black. It was very unicolor. Then I looked down on my brunch plate, and it was also very “uniquely unicolor”mostly green. I was somewhat feeling proud (!) to have a “well-being” meal because we were always told that “eating green” is a good diet to stay healthy. However, recently I have found that “coloring your plate with a rainbow of vegetables” is better than eating just green leafy veggies. It is not an exaggeration to say that in the contemporary society, many people have inappropriate eating habits. Or, people sometimes do not eat at all, skipping meals due to hectic schedules. They neglect the fact that their eating habits can actually make them suffer from chronic diseases such as blood pressure, heart diseases and even ca...

Newsletter Vol 2. Can Water Make You Fatter?

“Drinking water makes you gain weight.” This is what female teenagers and adults think. They avoid drinking water especially at night. To give you the answer right away, “No. It is not true.” As many are aware of, water has 0 calorie, meaning that it does not have anything to do with gaining weight. Drinking a large amount of water may temporarily seem to add on weight, but body weight goes quickly back to the original state with diuretic effect. Here is some information on water which is worth knowing for our daily lives. Tap Water vs. Boiled Water—what are the differences? The fundamental difference between tap cold water and boiled water is the movement in water molecules and dissolved oxygen. For boiled water, water molecules become active while the dissolved oxygen decreases. It may easily be absorbed due to high movement of water molecules, but it has less oxygen than cold tap water. According to the Dr. Lee Seung-nam of Gangnam Best Clini...
